Payment terminals

CTpos Payment is our app on the payment terminal. It receives the amount from the till, starts the card payment and sends the result back.

CTpos Payment: ready for card, with LAN and server status

How a payment works

  1. The till sends the amountThe clerk presses card on the terminal (F9). The till shows that it is waiting for the card.
  2. The customer paysVerifone's own payment program reads the card, takes the PIN and talks to the acquirer.
  3. The result comes backApproved or declined with card type, masked card number and card slips, which can be printed on the till's printer.

Two routes to the terminal

  • LAN: on the same network the payment goes directly between till and terminal – even without internet. The connection is protected with a key only the assigned till knows.
  • Server: otherwise the payment goes via the CTpos server, also over 4G.
  • The till chooses by itself, and the screen shows whether the payment goes via network or via server.

Questions and answers

Can we take cards when the internet is down?

Yes, if the till and terminal are on the same local network. Then the payment goes directly over the shop network, and payment reports are sent to the back office when the connection is back. With no network at all, the till cannot reach the terminal.

Is the customer charged twice if the connection drops during a payment?

No. The till reconnects and sends the same payment again; the terminal recognises it and does not charge again.

Does the terminal store card numbers?

No. It only stores what Verifone returns: card type, the last four digits, authorisation code and receipt text. Full card numbers are handled only by Verifone's payment program.

Can one terminal be used by several tills?

A terminal serves one till at a time. In the back office you choose the terminal per till, and it can be moved to another till at once.

How do we take MobilePay?

The customer pays on their phone, and the clerk records the payment with MobilePay (F10) on the till.

Can we use our own terminal?

It depends on the model. Contact us and we will check whether it is supported. CTpos Payment runs on Verifone Android terminals today.
